Kids Black History was created by secondary school teacher and head of year, Keighley Douglas in June 2020. Through working in the education sector and in London schools for over 10 years, Keighley saw a huge gap in the curriculum for the education of black history. Whilst educating her daughter Raiyah at home during the pandemic of 2020 Keighley noticed that the education of black history for early years and KS1 was not age-appropriate and sometimes non-existent within some organisations. A lot of the focus on black history for kids was around the civil rights movement and focused on the same figures over and over again. Keighley decided to create a platform where young children can be engaged and enthused by black history where it is represented positively. This is how Kids Black History was born!
